Videos - Words from the Myths

Students worked in groups of 4 or 5 to research a common modern-day word or expression which has roots in an ancient Greek myth - Achilles heel, Pandora’s Box, Hypnosis, etc. Groups then storyboarded and wrote a script for a short 2-part video on their word. One section of the video would show how the word is used in modern language, and the other section would depict the mythical origins of the word. Videos were created using TouchCast Studio on an iPad. Students used costumes and props, green-screen backgrounds, filters, and on-screen images to set their scenes. 

Videos were uploaded to YouTube (unlisted) and shared at a “gallery walk” using posters with QR codes that linked to each video. Students watched on their phones or school-provided iPads and left feedback via post-it notes on each poster. The project took about 3-4 weeks of classes, from research through writing, editing and sharing their videos.
