Custom Currency

In this project, students work collaboratively in groups to design and develop their own fully functioning systems of currency, with each student taking ownership of a different denomination. Each group begins by establishing a standard value for their currency, similar to a gold standard, which serves as the foundation for determining the worth of each denomination. Students must then make meaningful decisions about the imagery and symbolism they incorporate, featuring important people, landmarks, or symbols that reflect the identity and values of their currency system.
