Getting to Campus

‍​Check the MIT Visitor page for general information on accessing campus, getting here by car or by public transit, recommended hotels and nearby lodging, dining, etc. To find any location on campus, visit whereis.mit.edu.

‍Public Transportation

‍We are closest to the MBTA Kendall/MIT red line stop and are conveniently close to several bus lines.

Check the MBTA trip planner for routes. Parking at Alewife Station and taking the red line in to Kendall/MIT is a great option for drivers.

‍On Foot

‍Navigate to the main campus address, 77 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, MA. While there may be  entrances that are close to us, getting up to our Makerspace can be confusing if you aren't familiar with our campus. Once inside, follow the detailed directions below.

‍Driving

‍Most of the buildings that make up the main part of the MIT campus share the same address. Navigate to 77 Massachusetts Avenue, Cambridge, MA or to your chosen parking location (see Parking). While there are many entrances to the main campus, this is the easiest to access for visitors.

‍Parking

‍Parking at MIT is challenging. If you decide to drive you can seek parking on campus at the attended lot located at 139 Mass Ave. This lot offers parking by the hour on weekdays and by the day on weekends. You can pre-purchase a permit up to 5 business days before the event.

Lots in the general area range from $40 - $45 for the day. Try parkabm.com or parking.com and put in the address: 77 Massachusetts Ave, Cambridge MA.

‍Plan for enough time to get to campus and up to our Makerspace. Some parking locations are half a mile from the Main entrance, and traffic in the Cambridge area is always congested.​

​Getting Up to Our Makerspace

1. ​Enter MIT through the main entrance at 77 Massachusetts Avenue
2. Continue straight on to the Infinite Corridor
3. Stop when you come to another large open lobby (with Killian Court lawn and the Charles River to your right)
4. Look to the left for the elevators and take one to the 4th floor
5. Go left out of the elevator
6. Swing right around the office with a yellow wall and neon sign
7. Pass the stairs and find Strobe Alley, the home of the Edgerton Center, straight ahead
8. Continue on and room 4-409 will be a few doors down on your left

​What to wear

Dress comfortably. Our spaces are air conditioned, but depending on the weather it may be warm or cold in parts of the building. Our shop in room 4-409 is an active makerspace – we do not require closed-toe shoes or any special safety gear, but we aware that there may be dirt, dust and debris around.

‍Dining Nearby

‍There is a cafeteria on campus with a good selection, and there are often a variety of food trucks. Off-campus options are plenty, but seating is limited and wait times can be very long during the lunch rush. If you choose to bring your lunch, we have a kitchen with refrigerator.

‍Photos and videos

‍We may take photos or videos while you visit, especially during our workshops. For remote sessions: We will be recording our Zoom sessions for folks who may have to miss a session, and so that staff can review them and make improvements to our program. For in-person sessions: We will have photo releases to sign - if you have any concerns about videos and photos being taken, please let us know!
